Unhappy Real Res Signet

I came back from my English 203 class today to find myself wanting a real life Res Signet.

I just now found out that a girl on the seventh floor of my dorm, just two floors up from me, was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. I thought of the forums after I heard because she dumped him for being too clingy. And that was a topic of discussion in the off topic thread.

Apparently some people aren't as civilized as we are, and they choose to do things like this rather than simply complain online. It makes me all sad panda to think about the state of our society that this could happen so close to where I live.

And I cant help but wonder about the frequency of such occurances, because last year a boy named John Jasmer, whom I had known since kindergarden, was murdered by his two best friends in my home town of Seattle.

I think I'm gonna cry, I need to go get some chocolate. I know, I sound like a woman, but I dont care. I'm secure in my masculinity, unlike dirty SOBs that kill other people!

My god.... That's horrible. When will people learn to control their emotions? Their actions? I mean, comon... That's just...that's just sad.

I'm sorry to hear, man, I feel for ya. Sometimes you just kinda wonder if society is falling apart...

There was a story about a girl that was shot at a party by this guy, because she refused to kiss him....

But really sorry that happened...it is a sad, sad place to be...

Things like this make me lose faith in our species...

I am really sad to hear about this. People like that are rediculous, and the worst thing is we are essentially unable to stop haneous actions such as that.

Sometimes I feel as though we havem't progressed at all as a people. Really, really disheartening

Society fell apart a long time ago, and I've never had faith in our species. The problem with us is that our intelligence simply lends to us a superior type of stuidity and cruelty. We have the capacity for amazing good and compassion, but most of us are too wrapped up in ourselves to think about doing something for other people. I mean even me, I do my very best to be nice and often am too nice... but even I do things occassionally that hurt others (nothing to that extent but still)... its just rooted deep in us as a species. Lets face it, the fact that the majority of popular games and films revolve around us killing other humans and/or other species just shows something wrong with our minds.

I guess Friends got it right in the episode where Phoebe had to try and do one nice thing that wasn't motivated by a selfish reason.

pHobac, really sorry to hear this

With all this murder and rape going on, the government is helping put a stop to it at all.

Thanks to the "shoot now, don't ask question later" bill in Florida, you can now not only carry a concealed weapon, but you can also fire if you feal "threatend".

I am sorry to hear about that murder. I live in a quite town so there is no murder or such at all around.

That is very, very disturbing. Anybody can say they "feel threatened", and I'd like to see you disprove it (they could just be an agitated type person)

Indeed, I dont think I like that system so much. I am a very tall, big man. So just a hypothetical to the small women out there. If you saw me walking towards you late at night in a big city like New York, or my home town Seattle, would you "feel threatened"?

And even if it does stop crimes, its just replacing one sensless death with another, perhaps somewhat less sensless death. Violence begets violence. I think we have to address the reasons why people feel the need to carry a gun because of other people.

That man is an idiot. No "if"s, "and"s, or "but"s.

Actually, there is a "flight or fight" response that people have. Either they run or they fight. So, actually, both are common sense. And I bet if that same guy was put into an actual dangerous situation, he'd shit his pants. People like that are always cowards on the inside.

@Pevil It's good to have an optimistic attitude, but the amount of good people are now far and few between (and their number is shrinking each day), and the world is a much more dangerous place then it was in the past.

The only good people left congregate on forum boards like GWG. That's right, Geeks are good people!

By the way, this thread makes me very very sad inside.... please do not remind me of all the bad things in the world.... I stopped going outside as much as possible for a reason....awhile back I became very depressed by the state of things because I try to be an optimist as much as possible but I lost faith by realizing that you can't change the world because not enough people want to make it a better place; they are only out for themselves, they could care less for the hundreds of starving children that leave us per hour; they could care less that the money meant to save the children was spent on bombs to kill other innocent children.... I vent with System of a Down in my speakers

Truly there are no good people. There are some who are part of the way there, but there always exists some horrible element, however hidden it may be.

Then again, there is a Jewish tradition that state that there always exist 36 truly righteous, living people. That's better than nothing, I think.

Default My personal feelings about "hate"

Damn... I feel sorry for your loss...

But I actually want to rant about our species for the moment. Although we could be like Nelson Mandela (who changed his country after his release from prison), We are unfortunately becoming more and more like Osama Bin Laden (you know, a big fat SOB of a terrorist, supposedly).

You know why this is happening? Television and under-age usage of videos, DVDs, Games and going to the cinemas. There is too much [CENSORED] doom and gloom around at the moment, and I won't be surprised of a world war happening where everyone kills each other!!! And the world's Governments aren't giving a damn and put gloss on all this...

And the worst thing is knowing their motives of killing. It's either for sex, money, revenge, drugs, religion, race or pure excitement...! This in my eyes make me want to do something really nasty to myself

---

I myself isn't religious at all due to this, and since I have a disorder that gives me these short or quite long bursts of anger, that's why I usually play on the PC/XBOX much more than giving a damn on what's happening around me.

I hope this message passes on to all of you and may consider that I'm not a bad person, I... Just want to be loved... But GW has one of the best communities around (Apart from that obligatory TS2 mayhem a few days ago), and I don't want to be banned from this forum because of what I have just said, or even losing people like you for such a lunatic to do that for his entertainment... God... If you're there, please give us all strength...

There is good people that can do bad and evil people that can do good. There will always be good and bad people. Yin&Yang

I see humans as born savages, how can i explain, if all of a sudden civilisation was wiped out but the children survived, they would grow to be something like a beast, to fight and kill for survival.

Your looking at us as if we were some how non violent saintly people in our great past. We are no different than any other preditor exept the fact that we are in all weak but had the intelligence to create technologies to aid our survival.

In the big picture we are only at the beginning of civilisation and if we ever find peace within our own species we will find war with another. Death, killing, war is in everyones nature and only through deticated training can anyone over come the natural instincts that ultamitly control our actions.

Your not wrong even if you were taking the piss, exept sticks and leaves are replaced with houses and streets, spears replaced with what ever manner of weapon can be used and again instead of using our hands and teeth we use a knife and fork which is a much more efficent way to tear apart that what we are eating.

Im not trying to make out we are primative but at the back of everyones head is survival.

So basically you just contradicted yourself saying that our instincts are to be predators to saying we shop at the supermarket for our meat. So where's being a predator come into that? He moves up the frozen meat aisle.... agile as a cat using the trolley as camouflage he prepares to punce on that lamb shoulder. Doesn't sound right. And i would have thought that the sticks and leaves would be replaced by clothes. And i am fairly certain using your teeth and hands to strip meat from a bone or any other way of eating is more efficient than a knife and fork yet not accepted in civilised society.

Well im not going to get into an argument but take away the super markets butchers etc and we would be back to hunting without dought. With the stick and leaves i miss read the post and thought you were refering to a forest landscape not clothing, clothes would be made from the skins of animals not the leaves of trees. A sharp knife will much more easily strip a bone of meat than hands and teeth.

Our natural thought are focused elsewhere when civilised but they are still there.
